God Sees You (Through the Psalms)

The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man ^Psalm 11:4.

God sees and his eyelids test the children of man. What a powerful statement by David. The word eyelids here in the Hebrew is better translated in English as pupil referring to God seeing David.

There are two things this implies. For the one who loves God, God’s eyes are enduring and caring. For the one who lives in sin and wickedness the eyes of the Lord are eyes of judgement.

For David, the eyes of the Lord did not only reveal God’s power but God’s personal care for him. David saw God’s eyes as a place of strength and courage because he knew that God was present in his life. God isn't a judge looking to punish, but a father who looks to guide and love.

Those are the same eyes He has for you and me. Because Christ has died on that Cross and taken away the punishment of our sins, God’s eyes are eternally upon us in grace, love and forgiveness. In this simple fact alone, we can praise Him for all of eternity.
