I have set the LORD always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken ^Psalm 16:8 (Click to read entire Psalm).

Fear grips us because our past pains cause us to want to control our future outcomes. Anxiety overwhelms us because the constant pressures of life. And worry takes over our hearts because we are unsure of what is to come.

How do we deal with this?

We must look to God.

David says, “I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” To set the LORD before him means to make God his counselor and instructor. The goal of David’s life was love and live for God. Therefore, his counsel and guidance came from God as he journeyed through his life.

The reason why David can get this counsel from God is because he knows that God is always available to those who cry out to Him. "Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken" (v. 8). Not be shaken? This implies that David has had moments where his life was shaking and falling apart. It was through those times that he learned the answer to an unshakable life was to look to God.

He is at my right hand means that God is accessible at any time and anyplace. With our right hand we reach for things; let us now reach for God. When we do this, like David, we will not be shaken. Our fear, anxiety and worry comes from putting our trust in things that are constantly shaking and unreliable. I pray this morning like David, we will put our trust in the God who is unshakeable and never-changing!

What are some of the things that make you anxious and worried and how can you give it to God?
