His Word More Precious than Gold (Through the Psalms)

More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb. ^Psalm 19:10

In this Psalm David is overwhelmed by who God is. As he looks up to the skies and sees the beauty of creation his heart pounds with wonder and awe (v. 1). As he dives into God’s Word he ponders the glory and holiness of God’s character and is undone by His majesty.

David is so in awe of who God is that the only word he can use to describe God is with the word “perfect.” David says, “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul” (v. 7). Perfect in Hebrew here means complete and without flaw or blemish. For David, this perfection was found in God's Word.

However, not only is God’s Word perfect, David says it is to be desired more than gold; fine gold, the most precious gold that can be found. He takes it further and says God’s Word is sweeter than honey dripping for a honeycomb. Wow.

Can you see it? Can you feel it? David loves God so much. But here is the secret to David’s love for God.

The more he learned about God, the more he fell in love with God. Have you ever felt that way about someone? The more you got to know them, the more amazing they become?

For David, that person was God. As he learned more about God through the Word, the more he fell in love with Him. This will be the same for you and me. The more we dive into God’s Word the more we will fall in love with Him! His Word will become more precious than anything this world can offer!

What can you do to fall more in love with Him?
