Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart ^Psalm 37.3

Do you have specific prayer requests that you wish God would answer? Maybe you have certain desires in your heart that you have asked God to grant you. It may be something tangible or it may even be something abstract that has more to do with your future plans.

So how does this thing work? What’s the best way to go about receiving things from God?

Delight yourself in God.

When you and I delight ourselves in the Lord, our heart naturally aligns with his heart. When we delight and abide in the presence of God, God’s heart begins to beat against ours. As we do this more consistently and more intimately, God begins to infuse His ways and His desires into our hearts.

In other words, our desires become God’s desires. This is what David means when he says, “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart (v.3). David is saying for the one who delights in God, will instinctively desires the things of God. And when this happens, God will begin to give us our desires because our desires have been sanctified by God.

Whatever it is that you are asking from God, first draw intimately to His heart. Draw near to him in prayer and worship and God will grant you your desires. These desires will be consecrated by the heart and will of God.
