The Priceless Love of God (Through the Psalms)

How precious is your steadfast love, O GOD! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings ^Psalm 36:7 (Click to read the entire Psalm)

The most powerful experience a person can have in this world is to encounter the love of God. A true revelation and experience of the love of God will transform the heart of every individual.

It is so precious to the one who experiences it that David declares, “How precious is your steadfast love, O GOD! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings (v. 7).” The phrase how precious translated from the original Hebrew is better translated in english as priceless.

David is saying that the love of God is so precious that it is priceless. In other words, there is nothing like it. There is no experience on this earth that compares to the love of God that he is currently feeling in this Psalm.

This love is so great that David says the children of man take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings. What does this mean? David puts his confidence in the unchanging steadfast love of God, “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds” (v. 5).

You and me can experience this today as well. David worshipped God as he reflected on God’s love. You and I can worship God by reflecting on the love of Jesus. We can experience how much God loves us by remembering that Jesus came and gave His life for us. Jesus pours His love into our hearts by hanging on a tree to make a way for us to experience this priceless love of God.
