Sing a New Song to God (Through the Psalms)
New experiences with God require new songs to be sung. While old songs recall what God did in the past, new songs capture what God is doing today.
David declares, “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God” (v. 3). David says this in response to God’s ever present help, “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure” (v. 2). David cried out to God in a time of need and once again God delivered him. And as a result, David got a new song to sing to the Lord.
There is a spiritual principle here that we can all learn. The one who leans into God every day, every moment and every opportunity, will continue to experience God in new ways. Many people forget that their relationship with God has the potential for perpetual growth and intimacy.
There is no end to knowing and falling more in love with God. Our experiences and intimacy with God can go deeper than the oceans and higher than the skies.
Rejoice over what God did yesterday but do not get stuck there. Rejoice over the provision and deliverance he brought you through in times past, but do remain there. God has a new song for you to sing today! God has a blessing and encounter waiting for you today. Lean into Him and keep your heart open to His leading.
