Generosity An Overflow of God's Love (Through the Psalms)
Generosity is not dictated by how much money you have in your bank account but rather by how much of God’s love is in your heart. Generous people are grateful people. Grateful people cannot help but be generous. Their hearts are tender and sensitive to the needs of others. David doesn’t just give money to the poor, he cares about the poor. David sees a need and he meets it.
Thus David says, “Blessed is the one who considers the poor! (v. 1). It is because David is blessed that he considers the poor. David is implying that the one who considers the poor does so because he knows how blessed he is.
The phrase considers the poor is better translated as cares about the weak. To consider is to ponder how you can help an individual who is weak and poor. The one who does this, does it because they are blessed by the Lord and have tasted God’s deliverance (v. 1).
Ask yourself today how have you been generous? Not only with your money but with your time, energy and resources. Are you giving yourself away to others are you preserving yourself?
Let us consider and care for those who are weak and in need.
