For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness. ^Psalm 26:3 (Click here to read entire Psalm)

What causes David to be obedient to God? What empowered and motivated David to be faithful to God’s Word? God’s love.

Whenever David thought about how much God loved him, it moved him into obedience. Why? Because true obedience always overflows from love.

Whenever you are in love with someone, it empowers you to do things that you otherwise cannot do. When you love someone, you begin to love what they love. When you love someone, you even begin to hate what they hate. That’s what happened to David.

David did not like obeying rules, he loved pleasing God. Thus, David was able to walk in obedeince because God’s love.

It reads, “For your steadfast love is before my eyes.” David has chosen to fix the eyes of his heart on the love of God. He has chosen to put the love of God at the forefront of his life. The results? “I walk in your faithfulness.” In setting the steadfast love of God as the vision of his life, he was able to faithfully walk in obedience.

Are you struggling with sin? Are you struggling with obedience? It’s always a matter of love. Rather than trying to obey him more, try to love him more.
