What You Look at Matters (Through the Gospels)

“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness” ^Luke 11:34.

What you look at matters. It matters more than you think. It matters so much that Jesus took it as far as to say, “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out" (Matthew 5:29). Why does it matter?

Because what you look at affects your soul. The pictures, the videos, the shows and things you watch, will directly impact the purity and wholeness of your soul. It will either quench or grieve the Holy Spirit that lives inside of you.

The one who truly loves God will be careful what he or she sees. They will do whatever it takes to fix their gaze on Jesus. They will do whatever it takes to protect their eyes from things that offend the heart of God.

With your eyes are you looking for wealth? Are you looking for fame and status? Are your eyes wandering to things and people inappropriately? Whatever you are looking at, turn from those things and look to Jesus. Allow your eyes to be fixed on things that please the Holy Spirit.

When you do this, your entire body will be full of light. This light will exude the love and life of Jesus to those around us. Let us shine this light bright and boldly to the world around us!
