Merry Christmas (Through the Gospels)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” ^John 3:16

Your love for someone is defined by how much you can sacrifice for them. While love may come with feelings and affections, the measure of true love is always defined by sacrifice.

Jesus sacrificed His life.

As if everything else God had already given us was not enough, Jesus gave His entire life for us to reveal how much He truly loves us.

The Bible makes clear that every good and perfect gift we have comes from God (James 1:17, Matthew 6:33). Everything good we have in our lives is a derivative of God’s grace and goodness.

But God wanted to take it a step further. God wanted to give us the ultimate gift; a relationship with Him. The emptiness in our hearts will not be satisfied with more materialist things. What we need is not another relationship with a man or woman. Another job or opportunity is not what is going to satisfy our hearts. No. A relationship with God is what we are truly longing for.

Hence, God gave His one and only Son so that we can be reconciled to Him. God proved how much He loved us by giving His Son. If you ever doubt His love for you, look at the Cross. If you ever doubt His faithfulness, look at the Cross. The gift of Jesus is proof that His love for us is unconditional. He gave His best.

Merry Christmas!
