Following Jesus Wherever He Leads You (Through the Gospels)

And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head” ^Matthew 8:20

To be a follower of Jesus, one must completely open themselves to let Jesus lead them as He desires.

When Jesus says, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head”, He is replying to a scribe who showed interest to follow Jesus. This statement by Jesus does not imply that Jesus was homeless but rather that Jesus never tied Himself down to one location. Jesus was always moving about doing the Father’s will. Jesus’ home was the will of God, not a geographical location.

A true disciple of Jesus must have the same mentality. To follow Jesus implies that we are willing to cut all ties and allegiances to anything that hinders us from obeying the will of God. Our hearts must be open to let the Lord lead us however He desires. As Christians, there will be times the Lord calls us to leave our comforts. There may be times He asks us to leave our communities and homes to embark on a journey with Him.

When this happens, will you be willing? Will you be able to let go of anything and everything that is stopping you from fulfilling His purposes on your life?
